Job Description

CPMs work individually with students to assist with career needs, such as resume and cover letter assistance, interview skills, and navigation of Huskies Get Hired and the department’s website. They also perform other support tasks, such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, entering data, distributing marketing materials, and assisting with office projects. CPMs occasionally conduct presentations for small groups and promote our office at tabling events, such as open houses and orientation fairs. Job Responsibilities: *Provide walk-in clients their first point of contact with the Career Services Office and direct them to the most appropriate service or staff member for their needs *Assist walk-in clients with resume and cover letter development, job search tools, and interview preparation for internships and career opportunities *Schedule and confirm appointments for clients and counselors *Serve as Career Services ambassador and promote events and services to the NIU campus community *Staff career fairs and other departmental events and provide support to contribute to their success *Promote Career Services by staffing tables at university events, such as orientation and open houses *Present career development workshops to the NIU campus community *Collaborate with supervisor and Career Services staff on various projects and initiatives. Assist with other projects as assigned by your supervisor *Conduct additional clerical and support activities as needed including data entry and filing

Job Requirements

*Must be a sophomore, junior or senior in the 2018-2019 academic year and must be able to commit to a full academic year. *Demonstrate communication skills through client interaction, presentations, and campus wide outreach. *Possess an interest in assisting peers to succeed *Demonstrate a desire to grow professionally in your own career development *Ability to work as a member of a team *Willingness to learn about different groups of people, identities, and experiences, and an ability to establish working relationships with people from backgrounds different from your own *Ability to demonstrate strong detail focused, critical thinking, and problem solving skills *Must be available for scheduling 10-15 hours per week during regular business hours (9:30 a.m-3:30 p.m.). Some evening availability is required *Must be a student in good academic standing with a 2.0 GPA or higher

Pay Rate: $ $8.30
