Job Description

Under the supervision of the NIU Department of Police and Public Safety, Student Event Staff (SES) personnel will work directly with NIU Police Officers in maintaining a safe environment at University social events. SES personnel are expected to work in all climates, ranging from extreme heat with indices over 100 degrees, to extreme cold with wind chills below 0 degrees. Some of the duties and responsibilities SES personnel can expect to deal with are as follows: •Assist in staffing the entrance and exit doors at University social events •Ensure venue capacity is not exceeded •Assist Public Safety in emergency situations at the event •Extra set of eyes and ears for the police department •Generally help to maintain a safe and well organized event •Check to see if appropriate policies are being followed ( i.e. Social Event Policies)

Job Requirements

Applicants must be in at least 6 credit hours at NIU and maintain good academic standing. Applicants must have a valid United States Driving License. Applicants must be willing and able to work up to a maximum of 20 hours per week to include late nights and weekends. Applicants must possess the ability to be assertive and manage conflict. Applicants must be willing and able to engage/confront groups of people to address security issues. Applicants must also possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Pay Rate: $ 8.25
