Under the supervision of the NIU Department of Police and Public Safety, Huskie Patrol is operated by student employees organized into teams and zones. Members are supplied for duty with radios carrying their own service channel for instant communication. The members are also distinctly attired as they make their rounds. Huskie Patrol provides up to thirty sets of eyes and ears for the Department of Public Safety. Members of Huskie Patrol work in all climates, ranging from extreme heat with indices over 100 degrees, to extreme cold with wind chills below 0 degrees.
Duties, responsibilities and requisite skills include but are not limited to foot patrol, crime prevention, locking of building, and providing escorts. In addition, to providing an extra layer of security Huskie Patrol provides assistance to Access Control with residence hall security.
Applicants must be in at least 6 credit hours at NIU and maintain good academic standing. Applicants must have a valid United States Driving License. Applicants must be willing and able to work up to a maximum of 20 hours per week to include late nights and at least two weekends per month. Applicants must possess the ability to be assertive and manage conflict. Applicants must be willing and able to engage/confront groups of people to address security issues. Applicants must also possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Applicants must be willing and able to work nights. There are two shifts 8:00 PM to Midnight and Midnight to 4:00 AM (or later) shift. The schedule applies to every day of the week. Applicants must be willing and able to work the majority of weekend hours (Thursday thru Saturday) evening hours and during significant events like Homecoming and other events held on campus.
Pay Rate: $ 8.25 per hour
