RESPONSIBILITIES

Position Overview
The Business Continuity Consultant’s primary functions include research in obtaining a customer base for consulting in business continuity management and broadband development. He/She will have experience in Business Continuity (BC) and Disaster Recovery (DR), including conducting business impact analyses (BIA) and risk assessments (RA). Other experience should be in developing continuity and recovery plans, implementing technical solutions, and conducting tests and exercises. The candidate should have a background in both Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery helping develop BC and DR programs for clients to ensure that the client can effectively respond to a disaster. The BC and DR programs are designed so that the critical business functions can resume within a defined time frame, minimize lost time, and repair or replace any impacted facilities as quickly as possible. This position includes assisting regional governmental agencies with the design, development, maintenance, and testing of the plans. He/She will also act as a coordinator for the Broadband Development Team to assure goals and targets are maintained within targeted budgets and timeline.

Description:
Analyzes and Develops Business Continuity Leads (20%)
• Develops a pipeline of external customers to increase sales for consulting in broadband development for business continuity.
• Secures contracts and purchase orders for broadband development/business continuity to develop new revenue opportunities.
• Researches new customers to maximize potential for consulting in broadband and business continuity services.
• Negotiates customers’ costs, provides quotes, negotiates contract terms, and expands and grows consulting in business continuity services.
• Researches new funding opportunities for broadband development and writes grant proposals to gain local funding and appropriations.
• Performs business/technology-oriented operational and capital budget development activities to plan, design, install, and administer business continuity plans.
• Consults with customers to educate them on broadband development and technology trends to assist customers with understanding transformational capabilities of existing portfolio.
• Researches latest methodologies, technologies, and reference materials to keep current with business continuity trends.

Manages Business Continuity Consulting Activities (45%)
• Performs analytical, technical, and operations and capital expense development work to plan, design, install, and administer business continuity plans.
• Consults with customers to educate them on broadband development and technology trends to assist customers with understanding consulting service offerings.
• Analyzes impact on, and risk to, essential business functions or information systems to identify acceptable recovery time periods and resource requirements.
• Develops recovery plans for decision making and communications, continuity of critical departmental processes, or temporary shut-down of non-critical departments to ensure continuity of operation and governance.
• Reviews existing disaster recovery, crisis management, or business continuity plans.
• Provides on-site customer support to assist customers in developing a business continuity plan.
• Writes reports to summarize testing activities, including descriptions of goals, planning, scheduling, execution, results, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations.
• Identifies opportunities for strategic improvement or mitigation of business interruption and other risks caused by business, regulatory, or industry-specific change initiatives.
• Creates business continuity and disaster recovery budgets.
• Prepares reports summarizing operational results, financial performance, or accomplishments of specified objectives, goals, or plans.
• Establishes effective written, verbal, and face-to-face communications with customers to ensure a reliable point of contact.
• Investigates customers’ long-standing and complex challenges to develop proposals for resolving customer issues by utilizing technical solutions.
• Maintains accurate records of proposals, discussions, and correspondence to ensure information and services are properly reflected and delivered to internal departments and customers.
• Develops long-term relationships with customers to understand and manage needs and to apply technical expertise for developing new product strategies and enhancing existing product sets.
• Participates in the execution of grant or written proposals and aligns necessary resources to successfully implement awarded proposals.
• Participates on project teams and provides guidance to project leaders.
• Performs onsite reviews of projects to facilitate accurate plans.

Manage Funded Projects (35%)
• Participates in the execution of grant or written proposals and aligns necessary resources to successfully implement awarded proposals.
• Participates on project teams and provides guidance to project leaders.
• Maintains close and cooperative contact with project stakeholders and assists in managing resources to assure project needs are met.
• Performs onsite reviews of projects to facilitate accurate plans.

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Bachelor’s degree
• 5 or more years’ experience in a consulting role, either internal or external, that has a broad view of company processes relevant to business continuity management with an in-depth understanding of industry accepted business continuity and disaster recovery practices.

PREFERRED SKILLS

• Master’s degree
• Record of research and publications or appropriate experience in a field of information technology, business continuity, or disaster recovery.
