The School of Allied Health and Communicative Disorders, in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Northern Illinois University, invites applications for an anticipated tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in its Audiology program.

Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Engage in scholarly activity, e.g., research publications, presentations, grants, and mentor student research. Positively contribute to committee service within the university, community, and profession. Provide student advisement to undergraduate and graduate students.

NIU is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University – Extensive located 60 miles west of Chicago. The audiology program is part of the interdisciplinary School of Allied Health and Communicative Disorders. Faculty in audiology, medical laboratory sciences, physical therapy, rehabilitation counseling, and speech-language pathology collaborate in clinical and research endeavors. Current projects include a concussion management team, a developmental play group, balance evaluations, and language/listening evaluations and treatment. The prospective candidate will work with a diverse student and clinic population. Excellent off-campus sites are available for practicum, research, and grant development. The school includes a 27,000 sq. ft. multidisciplinary clinic space that houses the Speech-Language-Hearing and Physical Therapy Clinics. Successful candidates will hold an earned Ph.D. in Hearing Science or closely related field from an accredited institution and exhibit evidence of, or potential for, an active program of research. All But Dissertation (ABD) candidates may be considered. Candidates will also demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills and evidence of, or potential for, excellence in university teaching.


Desired areas of specialization include, but are not limited to: psychoacoustics, tinnitus, auditory/vestibular pathologies, auditory processing disorder, and/or medical audiology, including genetics and pharmacology. Prior teaching experiences and eligibility for IL licensure and CCC-A are preferred.
